Cancún will host PGA Latin America Tour first “Bupa Match Play”

International golf continues to win spaces in our country and this time it will host the first Bupa Match Play event to be played at the Iberostar Playa Paraíso Golf Club in the Riviera Maya, Quintana Roo.

This was announced on Tuesday March 5 by the PGA Tour Latin America, which is about to begin its seventh season.

The Bupa Match Play that will have a prize pool of 125 thousand dollars, will feature 64 players and will take place from June 7 to 10.

“Every time we add something new to the competition, our Tour improves and increases the quality of the events we play every week “said Jack Warfield, president of the PGA Tour Latin America, from Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida.

At the same time he acknowledged that “the Riviera Maya is one of the most beautiful places in Mexico and the Iberostar Playa Paraiso Golf Club will provide players with a tremendous challenge”. The Iberostar Playa Paraiso Golf Club is located between the Caribbean Sea and the Nichupté Lagoon.

The design of its golf course, which crosses a mangrove vegetation ecosystem, was in charge of the PGA Hall of Fame member, Japanese Isao Aoki.

Only top-60 “PGA Tour Latin America Order of Merit” players will participate in this one-of-a-kind comptetition that will take place on Monday, June 4, 2018.

On the court, the participants will be seeded from 1 to 64, No. 1 faces No. 64, No. 2 with No. 63 and so on in a direct elimination event. Each match will be scheduled to 18 holes and the eventual champion will need six wins in a row to take the title home.

“We have the privilege of making history in the PGA Tour Latin America by sponsoring the first match-play event in this Tour,” said Moses Dodo, general manager of Bupa Global Latin America.
