“About 150 tons of garbage are left on the streets of Chetumal on a daily basis, due to the fact that the capacity of the 10 collecting vehicles is only 200 tons, which is totally insufficient to cover the collection demand of 350 tons per day. This means that 42% of the garbage is left on the streets”, assured the director of Public Services, Jaime Valle Villaseñor.

He stated that there are only ten garbage collecting trucks in Chetumal: five units that belong to the company Amex Eco Solution, and five that are municipal property, which operate daily collecing up to 200 tons of garbage a day from public roads, which are deposited in the Chetumal sanitary landfill and not in the perimeter zone.

“We started to work with five trucks, then we obtained six extra units, however one of them is under repairs.” the official said.

Valle Villaseñor acknowledged that with other five units, which Amex Eco Solutions has not yet delivered, the remaining 150 tons of waste accumulated in the city, will be collected on a daily basis.
