During the last 5 or 6 years, a new form of organized crime has become a significant problem for Mexican authorities in over 22 states of Mexico: thefts of petroleum. Petroleum thieves are commonly known in Mexico as huachicoleros, a name adopted by gasoline truck drivers to refer to the stolen hydrocarbon.

This time, the huachicoleros were caught by agents of the Mexican Navy, moving a large quantity of allegedly stolen fuel at high sea off the coast of Isla Mujeres.
