The Zofemat Directorate of Isla Mujeres works on laboratory analysis of water quality in Playa Norte, as part of the procedure to request in 2019, the Blue Flag award.

“The quality of water is one of the most important criteria, and the samplings are being made, to verify that it is suitable for bathers to enter the sea; we are working on all the paperwork, procedures, regulations, everything they ask for, “said Kerem Pinto Aguilar, head of the Directorate of the Federal Maritime Terrestrial Zone (Zofemat).

The criteria of the distinctive 2018-2019, indicates that international health parameters must be met, these guidelines were established in the “Guidelines for safe environments in recreational waters, Volume 1: Coastal waters and fresh waters, 2003 version for recreational water of the World Organization of Health “, in the sense that the water of the beaches should be free of agents that put human health at risk.

It is necessary that the beach complies, completely, with the sampling of the water quality and the frequency requirements established by Blue Flag; respect the standards and requirements for water quality analysis; and most important, that neither industrial, residual or contaminated discharges affect the beach area.

Currently, North Beach has the distinctive “White Flag”, which places it among the most competitive in Mexico, a fact that represents a guarantee for visitors and islanders.
