Two tourists were arrested with pink snail in Chetumal’s air terminal.
They intended to fly to Mexico City with 10 kilos of this mollusk which commercialization is closed.

CHETUMAL, Q. Roo.- Personnel of the Chetumal International Airport Customs Office detected four people who had inside their luggage 10 kilos of pink snail. In the end, three of the four tourists managed to board the morning flight, and one of them stayed to perform the corresponding procedure.

The review process to go onboard the commercial flight to Mexico City, requires passengers to enter their suitcases to the X-ray band where the staff detected something unusual inside the tourists’ suitcases, apparently of foreign nationality.

According to data collected at the air terminal, the passengers had obtained the pink snail in Belize, although they could not verify the origin of the snail, for which the product was confiscated, and the suspects received an economic sanction, but customs authorities did not reveal the amount.

The process derived from the prohibition in the state for the commercialization of the mollusk being in permanent closure for five years, since 2012.
